CAN I HELP MYSELF?

Things to check

Is the power on?

On many occasions we have had a call where the switch for the heating has been turned off. If we have serviced the boiler for you we have put a label on the switch. If you want to change the fuse do not exceed 3amp. as it may cause some damage.

Is the timer set correctly?

Has the pilot gone out?

Read the instructions to see if you can relight the pilot.

Many boilers these days do not have pilot lights but have electronic ignition.

DO NOT TAKE THE CASE OFF. If you need a tool to do anything with the boiler then assume you are not meant to do it! Some boilers have live wires even when the timer is off.

Read the manual. You may have a reset button.

If you can hear the pump running then usually it is the boiler that is at fault.

If you do not hear the pump then check the fuse, the timer and the thermostats.

Turn up the hot water and room thermostat to see if you can get anything to work.

If you are competent, check to see if there is a live wire on the pump. If there is then either the pump has stuck or has burnt out.

If the pump and boiler work see our notes on radiators not working, and pump stuck.
