TIPS FOR SPRING/SUMMER/AUTUMN/WINTER
SPRING
Spring is the
best time to have your boiler serviced. The boiler has worked hard all
winter and a good clean will set it up right for the next time it is
needed to the full.
Spare parts are
easier to locate if required, and if there is a problem you have the whole
of the summer to sort it out.
Now is the time
of the year to get estimates for any plumbing and heating repairs or
additions that are needed.
SUMMER
Time is running
out! Sorry to bring gloom over this lovely period when everyone is on
holiday, but so are plumbing and heating engineers. The holiday period
causes the engineers to get a little behind with their work. Best get it
sorted now!
There is no
need to turn the gas off if you go away on holiday. If you do like to do
this then it a good idea to turn the pilot off first before turning the
gas off. Turning the gas off before the pilot burns all the gas in
the pipe and makes it difficult to relight the pilot.
AUTUMN
You missed it,
along with everyone else. October is our busiest month and the run up to
Christmas. Many people ring up and ask for the boiler and system be
“checked out before the winter”. If we do find a problem then it is a
problem trying to find the time and trying to find the spare parts.
Stockists tend to run down stock in the summer and so do their suppliers.
There is also usually a queue at the trade counter causing even more time
lost just when the weather is getting colder and the dark nights are
setting in.
Don’t forget to
turn your water off to the garden tap and drain all the water out of your
garden hose.
WINTER
There are lots
of tips on this site on how to save energy and how to keep warm.
If you are
going away for winter leave the heating on 24 hours set on low. If you do
not have a room thermostat set the boiler to come on in the middle of the
night or leave the hot water on 24 hours with the airing cupboard door
open. Your insurance company may require that you drain the system if you
are away for more than 2 months, so best check.
