WHAT TO DO WHEN THINGS
BREAK DOWN
Keeping warm
If
you are unable to get your system repaired – keep the home as warm as
possible.
Do
not leave it until the last minute to get assistance. Ask you friends or
relations to lend you an electric heater if you do not have one. Please do
not worry too much about the cost. Over a few days it will not be much.
Keep one room warm. This may be the lounge or the kitchen, but do not use a
gas cooker or a hob as a form of heating. It is dangerous because there is
no flue and they are not made for it.
Fill a hot water bottle.
If
you have an electric blanket put it on and have an early night. (You may
need some extra blankets).
Stay with a friend, or relations!
No Hot Water
You
may be able to use your immersion heater if you have one. This is an
electric heater which is on the top of your hot water tank.
It
looks like a big round disc with a thick wire coming from it. Follow this
wire to a switch, which is usually on the wall. Put the heater on about an
hour before you need it, but remember to turn it off because usually the
water gets very hot with an immersion. Cost to run? About £5 a week, so it
is not too bad.
